The Cobourg Coastal Camp is located within the in Garig Gunak Barlu National Park (Cobourg Peninsula) in northern Arnhem Land. We have a strong relationship with the Traditional Owners, the Madjunbalmi Clan, and we are fortunate that they have granted us special permission to operate our unique safari camp on this land.

Overlooking the bay of Port Essington, our camp is nested amongst savannah bushland and operates as a designated fishing camp from April to May and Sept through November. Catering for 12 guests at any time, our fishing packages are personalised and offer professional yet relaxed Top End hospitality.

Our experienced fishing guides cater to all levels of fishing, from the most experienced to those who have yet to wet a line. A regular day out could see some barramundi, mangrove jack, Spanish mackerel, queenfish and golden snapper. GT's are common as with stripey, red emperor and cod. The days catch can be cooked for dinner that night, prepared by our Camp Chef.

“My first fish was a 16 pound cod and then we were catching Barra and all sorts of other wonderful fish, so many I cannot remember them all. Over the 5 days we also caught rays, crabs (on a fishing line) Queen fish, small sharks, thread fin salmon, tuna and even a barracuda - L Nava

There is plenty to see and do for those who don't want to fish every day or for a full day. Our resident camp hosts will ensure you are well looked after if you decide to remain at camp for the day. As well as a beautiful sandy beach to explore, coastal bush-walks offer excellent bird-watching opportunities, which the region is well known for. Our camp itself is the perfect place to rest, relax and soak up the natural surrounds. Our comfortable lounge area has an extensive library of books relevant to the region and can be read at leisure.

We run visits to the Parks Cultural and Information Centre, where you can learn more about the park's history and have the opportunity to meet and chat with local rangers. We can also offer guided walks through the nearby Victoria Settlement ruins, which represent the third failed attempt at settlement in Northern Australia.

I knew nothing about that colony before visiting but Mike was a great guide and spoke enthusiastically about the ruins, and back at camp, gave me a book to read more about the settlement - L Nava

We had a fantastic trip recently with a corporate group on a 5 Day/5 Night fishing package. Not all guests were experienced fisho's. Using 2 boats for 6 guests on this trip, our excellent skipper/guides were able to tailor the 5 days to suit everyone's experience and interests. So whether you are an experienced angler wanting to experience one of world's best fishing destinations, or a novice keen to explore a little more of Cobourg Peninsula, we have you covered.
