Million Dollar Fish - Darwin Fishing Competition 2019-20

If fishing in some of Australia’s most remote, wild waterways and the opportunity to bag a million dollars prize money with your Barra sounds like it’s too good to be true then you haven’t heard about the Northern Territory’s Million Dollar Fish.
Boasting the largest number of Barra in Australia the NT is an unrivalled fishing destination. With warm weather all year round and so many diverse fishing destinations from turquoise seas, huge tidal rivers, mangrove lined estuaries and picturesque billabongs it's enough to keep any angler happy. From October 1st, 2019 there is also the opportunity to take home some big prize money with that brag snap of your barra. With over $7 million dollars up for grabs there’s never been a better time for that bucket list fishing trip to the NT!
There are 6 of these elusive Barra carrying a $1 million dollar prize tag swimming around plus 120 tagged with $5 000 - $10 000. There’s also $30,000 in prizes to be won for everyone who registers, with lots of fishing gear up for grabs. So what’s the catch? Well you must be over 18yrs, an Aussie resident and register online at milliondollarfish.com.au (it’s free) to pocket the prize money. You also have to get out on the water this summer and be lucky enough catch one of these 126 tagged barra.
This is season 5 of Million Dollar Fish and previous years have seen plenty of the $10 000 fish caught but left all the million dollar tagged barra still up for grabs. The competition is open from now until 31st March 2020 and if nobody has caught a million dollar fish by then the comp will stay open until some lucky angler does!

The tagged Barra have been released around Darwin, Kakadu, Katherine, Tiwi Islands, Arnhem Land and the Cobourg Peninsula. With the water temperatures rising over the summer months the barra love to bite. The best season for barra fishing is generally after the monsoon rains in March/April as the barra congregate for the wet season feed, known locally as the run off, as the flooded rivers run out into the sea, there’s lots of action and not a better time to try your luck. This is one of the busiest times of the year for fishing operators. Remote fishing Lodges usually open around March / April as the floodwaters subside and are often booked out months in advance, seasoned anglers know this it the time of year to catch a metrey (a barra over 1m in length) a much-coveted fish that many will chase for a lifetime.
